What It Is:
ZINK™ stands for Zero Ink™ – a new and simpler approach to printing whereby high-quality, colorful, durable and affordable prints are created without a drop of ink. The ZINK™ Technology, invented by ZINK Imaging, encompasses both the ZINK Photo Paper™ and the intelligence embedded in every ZINK-enabled device.

Polaroid is using this new technology to bring a new family of digital instant products to the marketplace. The Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Mobile Printer is the first ZINK-enabled device available.

The center of this new category of printing is ZINK Photo Paper™. The paper is a durable material with embedded yellow, magenta and cyan dye crystals, activated with 200 million heat pulses, in 30 seconds, in a single pass.

With 100 billion crystals in a 2-inch-by-3-inch print, the paper is 100 percent inkless. Polaroid PoGo™ uses heat to activate and colorize these crystals. Because there is no ink, Polaroid PoGo™ has the unique benefits of being small, simple, elegant and eco-friendly.

 
How It Works:
ZINK™ technology is a breakthrough technology that produces on-demand color images and photos – without ink, ribbons or toner.

Before printing, the embedded dye crystals are colorless, so ZINK Photo Paper™ looks like standard white photo paper. A ZINK-enabled device uses heat to activate and colorize these dye crystals. These crystals represent an entirely new class of molecules, invented by ZINK™ scientists through a long discovery process. The properties of each dye crystal were finely tuned to achieve the color palette and image stability required for beautiful, full-color digital prints.
